Selective Catalytic Reduction: What’s the main challenge?

The reduction of pollutants for heavy duty and light duty vehicles are an important topic which is discussed by governmental authorities all over the world. As a matter of fact NOx are to be reduced within the next decade. At the beginning of September 2014 the Euro 6/VI regulation is coming into effect. In order to face the regulations of Euro 6/VI technological standards of SCR systems will have to be improved.

The main challenge for the SCR system developers is to find new ways and advanced technologies to reduce NOx without increasing harmful CO2-emissions. There are many more open questions such as:

  • What are the best ways tointegrate SCR systems?
  • Is it possible to lower costs of SCR systems without losing high performance?
  • How do OEM`s specifications to SCR components suppliers look like?
